The Cotton Club Museum and Cultural Center is excited to host UNAPOLOGETIC Vol 2, The Censorship of Blackness, exhibiting the works of artist Yvonne Ferguson. This exhibit is a sequel to her 2022 exhibit, Unapologetic! UNAPOLOGETIC Vol. 2 explores the censorship of the history and people of the African diaspora through portraits of significant figures from African American history as depicted through Ms. Ferguson’s artistic and cultural lens.
UNAPOLOGETIC Vo. 2 also features a newly created mural inside the Cotton Club Museum. The mural, another work by Ms. Ferguson, features an artistic rendering of Sarah McKnight, the owner of Gainesville’s 1940s Cotton Club, along with renderings of B. B. King, Etta James, and Bo Diddley, all of whom performed at the Cotton Club during that era.
The exhibition will run through early September at the Cotton Club Museum and Cultural Center, which is located at 837 SE 7th Avenue in Gainesville, FL 32601. Museum hours are Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. For additional information, visit cottonclubmuseum.com/events or call 352-226-8321.
