The Gainesville Master Chorale is an auditioned group of sixty dedicated vocalists who are also students, professors, business executives, and retirees – each with significant musical experience, dedicated to the joy of rehearsing and performing the world’s greatest choral and orchestral works.
Founded in 1976, the Gainesville Master Chorale and Philharmonic Orchestra (“Gainesville Civic Chorus”) weaves the universal language of music throughout North Florida’s artistic tapestry. Comprised of local musicians from all walks of life, its vocalists rehearse and perform music by the world’s greatest composers, accenting classical masterworks such as Verdi’s Protest Requiem, Brahms’ German Requiem, and Handel’s Messiah.
As University of Florida’s Director of Choral Activities, and Gainesville Master Chorale Director and Conductor, Dr. Will Kesling, Jr. magnetizes local vocal talent and Masters/Ph.D degree candidates who travel worldwide to study and perform here. Melding local musicianship with world-class performers, Kesling forges innovative, thoughtful programming that entertains and inspires a diverse North Florida audience.
The Gainesville Chamber Singers is a smaller group of Master Chorale vocalists performing in more intimate venues to fulfill the mission of community outreach. Led by Assistant Music Director and Composer-in-Residence Joshua Mazur, the Gainesville Chamber Singers transport folk, patriotic, and popular music to audiences at festivals, parties, civic meetings, churches, and retirement communities. Music is the universal language. We invite you to join us in this splendid conversation!
