Blood, Sweat, and Tears: Black Communities and Football

Join the Cade Museum for an evening of thought-provoking discussions and a free documentary film screening of “Bridging Troubled Waters: Coach Jessie Heard, Football and Desegregation.”

The event features insights from Coach Jessie Heard, who shaped football programs at both Lincoln High School and Buchholz High School, and Derrick White, Professor of History at the University of Kentucky and author of “Blood, Sweat, and Tears,” covering the history of Black college football after the Civil War.

Don’t miss this opportunity to engage with key figures in football history and celebrate the lasting impact of the sport on our communities. This event is proudly sponsored by the UF African American Studies Program and the Florida A&M National Alumni Association of Alachua County.
