Celebrate both Black History Month and Women’s History Month with a screening of “Harriet”, a 2019 biographical film about Harriet Tubman (1822-1913). A leader in the Underground Railroad she personally freed more than 70 enslaved people, was a Union spy during the Civil War, led 150 Black soldiers in the Combahee River Raid, freeing over 750 enslaved persons, and advocated for women’s suffrage. Cynthia Erivo, starring as Tubman, was nominated for an Academy Award as best actress in 2020. The film will be followed by a short discussion.
