High Springs Historical Society Museum

The High Springs Historical Society Museum provides a window into pioneer life as it was during the late 1800s – early 1900s steam train era.

High Springs was largely a company town for the Plant System rail yard.  On prominent display in the Museum is a 6′ x 20′ authentic diorama of the 50-acre Plant System rail yard. The model “HO” gauge display includes an accurate to scale depiction of the rail yard with a roundhouse, turntable, shops, supporting buildings and running trains.

Tour the “Walk of Remembrance” bricks engraved with the names of men and women who were involved with the railroad. The original High Springs 1924 Brockway-LaFrance fire truck is on display and is in the process of being restored. Also displayed are fire nozzles, hoses, fire axe, hats, gas masks and a hand-pull fire hose reel on wheels. View photos, antiques, and preserved artifacts of our local history along with railroad equipment, tools, bells and whistles. Model railroad displays are also available for enjoyment by all ages.

The Museum is housed in the restored High Springs Elementary School which is listed on the Historical Register. The Museum is within walking distance to historic downtown with notable restaurants, antique shops and stores, and the Priest Theater. Come spend the day with us in High Springs.
